We Will Always Remember

9/11/01

I dreamed last night of rebirth, of peace and unity on earth,
I awoke this morning to fire and flames, to hate filled hearts gone insane,
I watched the injury their bombs inflicted,
Not crash hope still felt as the wreckage was sifted.
I saw coward’s attempts to bury freedom and grace,
And wipe strength and pride off America’s face.
They may hold the power to make buildings fall,
But they cannot break the spirit that keeps us standing tall.
We will mourn the dreams of lives cut short,
By the indignant weakness of madmen.
But we remain one nation, more united now,
And for those lost eager to defend.
Today I stand, my head held high,
My heart a little battered.
Honored to see Americans hold onto one another
And to know that every precious life matters.
I dreamed last night of an earth united
Without separation.
I awoke this morning and declared with my country,
You caused pain to our family and friends, now deal with our nation.
Only a people with no courage or honor would be proud
To leave a blind opponent broken.
Now let’s see who shatters the other to pieces,
When America’s eyes are open.
